In this project, I paint from life at the Haven Jam, a weekly jam session and gathering point for a vibrant community of artists, hosted by aCreators’Collection and Indigo Soul NYC in Brooklyn, NY.
I use quick brushwork to trace the ephemeral postures and movements of musicians concentrating on their craft. Responding gesturally to both the sound and look of the performance, I closely observe the contours of the figures and instruments while also allowing my hand to move with the music. Figures overlap and fuse with one another, melding with fields of color and coalescing into lush dreamscapes that evoke immersion in live music.
