In this series, I focus on one musician at a near life-size scale. Each painting was completed during a single live session.
Playing an instrument and making a live painting both entail physical presence and tactility; both can be done in an expressive, improvisational mode after a practitioner has come to deeply know a musical language or a language of form and color, respectively. I use quick, darting brushstrokes to record impressions of a reaching finger or bending knuckle, layering and overlapping these momentary responses in moody color to evoke a sense of the motion and sound of a live performance.
